Whoever gives or causes or agrees to give or causes to be given any gratification to any person and whoever accepts or agrees to accept or attempts to obtain any gratification as a motive or reward for inducing by corrupt or illegal means any public servant to do or forbear to do any official act or in the exercise of the lawful power of such public servant to show favour or disfavour to any person shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to three years or with fine or with both.
