Whoever accepts or agrees to accept or attempts to obtain any gratification for himself or any other person and whoever gives or causes or agrees to give or causes to be given any gratification to any person as a motive or reward for concealing an offence or screening any person from legal punishment for any offence shall if the offence is punishable with death be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to seven years and shall also be liable to fine.
